Girl's Soccer

It was a great night for soccer over in Sumter. After being rained out Monday, the game served as a final tune-up for Thursday's home game vs Blythewood for the region championship.

After a sloppy start, the girls finally were able to put four first-half goals in past the keeper. Karah Barry scored the first three goals herself and Maya Hamzy later closed out the scoring for the evening. With lots of subbing in the second half of the game, the final score was 4-0. Austin Lea and Karoline De La Paz both provided assists. Lauren Cooney, Jaden Parker, and Karlee Williams all combined for the team's eleventh shutout in 13 wins.

We invite everyone out Thursday as the girls take on Blythewood with the Region IV Championship on the line. Students get in free with their ID before 6:15.

It was a great night to be a VIKING last night as the Varsity Girls Soccer Team beat Blythewood 3-0. With the win, the girls locked up at least a share of the Region Championship and won the Sawyer Cup for the first time.

In a tightly contested match, similar to the previous one that went down to pk's, the Vikings were able to take a 1-0 halftime lead thanks to a Blythewood deflection into their own goal. But not to let the events repeat itself, the girls came out stronger in the second half and put 2 more goals in, thanks to Maya Hamzy and Karah Barry, to seal the victory. Lauren Cooney had her best and most active night in goal with 12 saves. The defense has now recorded 12 shutouts, allowing only 6 goals in 16 games all season.

The Vikings will return to action after Spring Break at home vs AC Flora on Tuesday, April 23 with the #1 seed on the line. Senior Night will be Thursday, April 25.

#11 Spring Valley 3
#9 Blythewood  0
Goals: Maya Hamzy, Karah Barry, Blythewood OG

While the JV Vikings fought hard and dominated gameplay in last night's girl's soccer game against Blythewood, neither team was able to score leading to a penalty kick shootout. Blythewood took the win, but the Vikings played with heart and intensity they hope to keep through their final week of games when they return from spring break.
