Swim Teams
The Viking swimmers were in the pool for the final dual meet of the season against powerhouse River Bluff. The girls suffered a loss 116-54, but the boys fought hard for a 86-84 win.
Carl Lobitz was the lone double winner (50 Free and 100 Fly). Alex Gregg won the 100 Free and Jonathan Frye won the 10 Breast.
The girls 200 Free relay picked up a win with Annie Lobitz, Breland Green, Tori Agostini and Anna Frye. The boys won the 200 Free (Ryan Staudt, Jonathan Frye, Matthew Greene and Lobitz) and 400 Free (Alex Greg, Staudt, Green and Lobitz).
Next up is the Region 4 Championships at the Harbison YMCA on Saturday, 10/3 at 9 am.

Girls Golf
The SV Lady Viking golf team defeated Heathwood Hall and Wilson Hall in a tri-match yesterday at Oak Hills golf course. Low medalist overall was Madison Branum shooting a 34 and low medalist for Spring Valley was Payton Starmack with a 40. Other contributors to the team score of 207 were: Kamryn Beaman, Paris Stevenson and Breanna Martinez.
The Lady Vikings last home match will be today against Blythewood and White Knoll.

Spring Valley will be offering the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 during school hours.
The Department of Education will be paying for the test for all sophomores.
Juniors who want to compete for National Merit Scholarships or the National Achievement Scholarship Programs for outstanding Black and Hispanic students will pay a fee of $15.00 for the test. Juniors please come by the Career Information Center (CIC) to pay and sign up for the test.

Spring Valley Viking Band will host the 2015 South Carolina Band Directors Association 2A/4A State Marching Band Championships on Saturday, October 31. Please join us as we watch some outstanding bands perform from all over our great state, and help us celebrate their many accomplishments!

College Application Day at Spring Valley is Thursday, October 1st. This exciting day will give our seniors time to focus on applying to college. Students will be invited to participate through their English, Government, or Economic classes. Seniors not currently in English, Government, or Economics, or Juniors who plan to graduate early, should contact your school counselor to set up an appointment to attend this event.
In addition to the Counseling Office staff, we will have college representatives visiting throughout the day to help students with the application process. Columbia College, Columbia International University, Winthrop University, Midlands Technical College, University of South Carolina, and College of Charleston are just a few of the colleges sending representatives. Times of their visits to Spring Valley will vary.

The 25th annual Walk for Life/Race for Life will be held at Finlay Park in downtown Columbia and Spring Valley is forming a team! Tech Night
Midlands Education and Business Alliance (MEBA) and Colonial Life and Accident Insurance Company are sponsoring a “Tech Night” for high school students on October 27, 2015. The event will be from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and held at Colonial Life. (1200 Colonial Life Blvd W, Columbia, SC 29210) This event showcases the diverse career opportunities available in technology.
What is Tech Night?
Unum Tech Night is a chance for high school students to get a closer look at IT as a career through an interactive, challenging and fun evening of activities. The attached brochure provides a high-level overview of Tech Night and what students can expect during the event.

Free SAT Workshop
The Spring Valley Education Foundation is offering a FREE SAT Workshop this fall. The SAT workshop will be held on Saturday, October 17th. We will take the first 150 students who sign up. The workshop will be held in the Spring Valley Auditorium from 8:00am-12:15pm. A spring SAT Workshop will be announced at a later date. Students or parents need to complete the registration form to attend the Free SAT Workshop. Stop by the Counseling Office if you have any questions.

Varsity Football
The Spring Valley Football team lost to South Aiken HS 48-42 this past Friday night. The Vikings were led on offense by Ty'Juan Fulton who led the Vikings with 157 yards and 4 TD's. He had a 37. 36, 27 and 5 yard touchdown run. The Vikings other 2 TD's were a 26 yard run by Ryan Lee and a 1 yard run by Shawn Moore. Justin Haynes had 2 receptions for 23 yards.
On defense the Vikings were led by Kenan Reed with 13 tackles and 1 Tackle for loss. Justin Haynes with 6 tackles and 1 fumble recovery. KeAndre Jones had 6 tackles and 2 sacks.
The Vikings record is 3-2 and will play at home this week for Homecoming against White Knoll HS.
PSAT/NMSQT Practice Site
The first new PSAT/NMSQT is coming up on October 14, and if you’re a sophomore or junior in high school, this is a great time to start practicing.
The PSAT/NMSQT has the same structure as the new SAT, just without some of the hardest questions (or the optional essay). Not only is it great practice for the SAT, but your PSAT/NMSQT results can also help you earn national recognition and scholarships.

1990 Class Ring Discovered in Memphis, TN!
Are you a 1990 graduate of Spring Valley High School? Do you know any graduates from the Class of 1990? If so, we need your help. The class ring pictured here was discovered by a retired US Air Force Lt. Colonel while doing some renovations on his mother's home in east Memphis, TN! The ring was found in some bushes in the front yard, and has the initials "TSW" engraved inside the band. If you are a member of the Spring Valley Class of 1990, and lost your class ring in Memphis, TN, let us know. A very good Samaritan would like to reunite you with your ring. Four members of our Viking Singers participated in the North Carolina Sings concert for the American Choral Directors Association conference held at UNC-Charlotte this past weekend. Track conditioning has started for the 2015 -2016 school year. Anyone interested in joining the track team, please come out to the track at 4:15pm on Monday's, Tuesday's and Wednesday's. Swim Teams
The Viking Swimmers participated in the Dreher Blue Devil Invitational Sunday, September 20. The girls finished 6th and the boys won the meet.
Carl Lobitz set 2 school records at the meet while winning the 50 Free (:21.43) and 100 Free (:47.16). Jonathan Frye also won the 100 meter Breaststroke in the winning team effort.
The next meet will be Tuesday at the CC of Lexington against White Knoll HS.
Varsity Football (Friday)
The Spring Valley Varsity football team lost a heartbreaker to Irmo by the score of 21-20. The vikings were led on offense by FB Kadarius Bunch who had 12 rushes for 83 yards and 1 TD. The Vikings also had TD runs by QB Ryan Lee and TB Terrell Jackson. The Viking WR's RJ Bacon had 3 catches for 58 yards and Justin Haynes had 2 for 22 yards.
The Vikings were led on defense by Da"Prince Haynes who had 10 tackles, 1 sack, 1 tackle for loss and 2 fumble recoveries. Justin Haynes had 10 tackles and 1 interception. Keandre Jones had 5 tackles and 2 tackles for loss. Kevin Owens had 8 tackles and Noah Davis had 3 tackles and 3 tackles for loss.
RJ Bacon had 6 punts for a 43.5 yard average, was 2-3 on Ext Points and had 3-4 kick offs go out of the endzone.
The vikings record is now 3-1 and travel to South Aiken this Friday.
Pink Out on Oct 16th
Spring Valley is having a "Pink Out" for breast cancer awareness on Friday, October 16th. We are encouraging ALL students, faculty and staff to wear pink to school on Friday, Oct. 16th.
As part of our "Pink Out" we are raising money to donate to the Palmetto Richland Walk for Life. All the money raised will go to the Spring Valley Walk for Life team.
To help raise money, we are selling new "Pink Out" t-shirts.

AVID Tailgate 2015 and Early Application Process
On Friday night, Spring Valley invited AVID students and their families from E.L. Wright, Summit Parkway and Longleaf Middle Schools to tailgate with Spring Valley AVID students and their families before the Spring Valley vs. Irmo football game. Everyone enjoyed some CiCi’s pizza and desserts before heading into the stadium to watch the game. The tailgate kicked off our early application period for students interested in applying for AVID for the 2016-2017 school year.
Application information can be found online for current Spring Valley students or 8th graders who will be attending Spring Valley next year. The early application period closes November 27th.
College Bus Tour
Juniors and Seniors can participate in our 2015 College Bus Tour. Students must complete a parent permission form and pay the bus tour fee to officially reserve a spot on the bus. Students with free/reduced lunch are encouraged to talk to their school counselor about a waiver. Please stop by the College Information Center if you have any questions.
Apply for Rho Kappa Honor Society
Rho Kappa, Spring Valley's newest Honor Society, is now up and running! The application period for the 2015-2016 school term is open to Juniors and Seniors. Applications may be downloaded from Mrs. Dilley's website, and may be dropped off when complete in D 329. The application period will close 9/30/15. No late applications will be accepted.
Richland Two and Richland Library Announce Partnership
Richland School District Two and Richland Library are teaming up to provide a state of the art library, multimedia center and community space as part of the district’s new student academic center, the Richland Two Institute of Innovation (R2i2). Additionally, the district and county are working to ensure every enrolled student receives a library card through the ConnectED Library Challenge.
