Boys Cross Country
Last Saturday, the Boys Cross Country Team ran in the State Qualifier and qualified for the state meet this coming Saturday. The State Meet is at Sandhills at 1pm. Our varsity team will be Calib Peart, Ben Garrett, Steven Andreen, Cam Brandenburg, Robert Godfrey and Charlie Timmerman.

Poetry on the Comet

On Sunday, November 1, Ms. Jennifer Bartell, English teacher at Spring Valley, participated in Poetry on the Comet, a project of Ed Madden, Poet Laureate of the City of Columbia.  Her poem "Sun" was selected from over 200 submissions from poets across the state.  

Ms. Bartell graduated from Agnes Scott College in 2005 and received the MFA in Poetry from the University of South Carolina in 2014. Her poetry has been published in pluck!: The Journal of Affrilachian Arts & Culture; Blackberry: a magazine; Jasper Magazine; decomP; Fall Lines; Composite {Arts Magazine}; and Callaloo. She also a 2014 Callaloo Writing Workshop Fellow.

Congratulations to our 2015 Homecoming Queen Court


Miss Krysta Wilson was crowned the 2015 Homecoming Queen on Friday night during halftime of the football game against Ridge View. First runner-up was Katherine Phemister, 2nd runner-up was Claire Walters, and Miss Homecoming Spirit was Gabi Coward.

Varsity Football
The Spring Valley Varsity football team defeated rival Ridge View HS 48-14 this past Friday night. The Vikings were led on offense by Ty'Juan Fulton who had 13 rushes for 112 yards and 2 TDS. Ryan Lee had 50 yards rushing and 1 TD, and also was 3-4 passing for 78 yards and 2 TD passes to RJ Bacon and DaPrince Haynes. The Vikings other touchdowns came on runs by Cameron Jones 29 yard TD and KeAndre Jones for 24 yards. The offensive line of Prince Howard, Ty Tallant, Jordan Stiffler, Henry Brown and Brandon Johnson led the charge. On defense the Vikings were led by DaPrince Haynes who had 10 tackles and 2 sacks. Cameron Jones with 6 tackles and 1 Interception. Kenan Reed with 10 tackles and Justin Haynes with 8 tackles and a caused fumble. Paul Stokes had 9 tackles. The defensive line had their best game of the year led by Noah Davis, Channing Tindall, Devon Jennings, Devin Smalls, KeAndre Jones and Henry Brown. 
RJ Bacon had 2 punts for a 54.5 average and had 5-6 kick offs in the endzone. The Vikings move 2-1 in the region with a huge game against Westwood this Friday night. 

Girls Cross Country
This weekend at middle state qualifiers, the Spring Valley girls qualified for state meet next weekend! Out of 17 teams we placed 2nd! We will compete in the State Meet on Saturday November 7th. The girls representing our team in the state meet are Martina Novotny, Mary Beth Payne, Breanna Murrin, Danielle Murrin, Annamarie Ringer, Emily Waters, and Paige Waters.
