Spring Valley's Math Team Earns 1st Place
Spring Valley's Math Team earned 1st Place (among all Division 1 high school competitors) in the 2013 USC High School Math Contest. The contest was composed of a 1.5 hour exam and a 1.5 hour ciphering round. Spring Valley math team claimed 4 spots in the Top 16 written exam scores and received Garnet and Black medallions. Those students were Richard Chen, Gregory Rassolov, Jenning Chen (8th grader from Dent Middle school), and David Qu (team captain). Richard Chen ranked 3rd over all examinees earning a $100 check, plaque, and a $2,000 scholarship to study math, science, engineering, or some other College of Science field if he decides to attend USC. This year's math team was composed of 12 students who went through a rigorous prep and training for 18 weeks on Wednesday for an hour and more for private studying. These students were: David Qu, Gregory Rassolov, Richard Chen, Miheer Bavare, Sarah Lee, Jenning Chen, Courtney Noh, Grace Smith, Surabhi Poola, Guillermo Pineda, Andrew White, and Mohommad Arammash.
Spring Valley Welcomes Students From Cali, Colombia
On Wednesday, January 16th, Spring Valley received 12 students from Cañaverales International School in Cali, Colombia as part of a sister-school international exchange program through Partners of the Americas. As part of the exchange program, Spring Valley also received exchange teacher Ms. Margara Castilla. Ms. Castilla, an English Literature teacher from Cañaverales, will teach Spanish at Spring Valley. The Colombian students and their teacher will attend Spring Valley for nine weeks and reside with families in the Northeast community. Some of the families who received an exchange student from Cali have also sent a child to Colombia to study.
On Sunday, January 20th Spring Valley sent six students to Cañaverales International School, accompanied by Spring Valley Spanish teacher Gloria Ham. Mrs. Ham will teach English Literature while in Cali.

Tutoring for math and other subjects continues to be offered after school on Mondays through Thursdays from 4:00-5:00.

2013 Sparkleberry Country Fair Student Scholarship Application
The Sparkleberry Country Fair Committee will award individual 1,000 college scholarships to selected Richland District Two graduating high school seniors. Monies for these scholarships were raised during the 2012 Sparkleberry Country Fair, along with donations from the Marine Corps Coordinating Council of South Carolina, the Northeast Kiwanis Club, First Citizens Bank and other business/community sponsors. Members of the Sparkleberry Country Fair Scholarship Committee select the students who receive these scholarships.
Eligible students must be planning to attend a South Carolina college or university during the 2012-2013 school year. Click Here to download application from the district website.
