Congratulations Timothy Wooten

Timothy Wooten is a senior at Spring Valley High School who is anxiously awaiting graduation day.  He has come so very far in his maturity, accepting the consequences that have been in part due to his actions in the past, and has done quite well with his grades due to this effort.  He has been focused and diligent in making certain that his assignments have been done, that he is tracking his own grades.  He has been a great addition to all of his classes and comes prepared each day.  Tim is a model student who has completely shifted his entire way of thinking and has become more conscientious about his demeanor and decision making. He doesn't want to let anyone down, including himself.  He turns in his projects and papers in on time and is never a disruption in class. Spring Valley Named one of America's Most Academically Challenging High Schools

Spring Valley High School has been named by The Washington Post as one of America’s Most Challenging High Schools in the nation. According to the Post, “America's Most Challenging High Schools ranks schools through an index formula that's a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year.   A ratio of 1.000 means the school had as many tests as graduates.”   Of approximately 27,000 U.S. high schools, fewer than 7 percent qualified for this recognition, and Spring Valley is one of only 14 South Carolina schools to make the list.

Congratulations Interact Club

Our Spring Valley Interact officers attended the 2013 SC Interact Convention on Saturday, April 14.  Our club won first place in Best-Fund-Raiser Project for our support of Hurricane Sandy and for our fundraiser to benefit Ms. Lee.  Our club was represented  by Paul Currey, Kyle Stiffler, Matt Evans, Alex Kohel, Madi Pickrel, and Carly Swan.

Congratulations Discovery Students

Congratulations to all of our Discovery students for their accomplishments at the South Carolina Junior Academy of Science Annual meeting on April 13th.  Awards were given based on their written research papers and oral presentations (please see attached). Spring Valley students won many awards, but ALL students were winners!  Three of our students, Bushra Islam, Karen Lee, and Philip Richardson were nominated to attend and present their research at the national American Junior Academy of Science conference in Chicago, Illinois, in February, 2014.  Congratulations to their parents and research teachers, Theresa Bailey, Dale Soblo, and Michelle Spigner.  Click here to view list of awards.

Congratulations to Richard Chen

Richard Chen has excelled so well on the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME) that he has qualified for the United States of America (Junior) Mathematics Olympiad (USJAMO).  Only about 500 students among the thousands of AIME participants qualify. This is a prestigious honor.  The USJAMO is a rigorous 9 hour exam divided into two 4.5 hour assessments of extremely rigorous mathematical proofs. Good luck to him!
