The New NATEF South Carolina Curriculum
Spring Valley Automotive Technology teacher Doug Guthrie was invited by the SC Department of Education to participate on the steering committee for revision of the newly adopted SC Automotive Technology curriculum. The committee met on August 8 to review and revise the curriculum for alignment with the new National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF) standards. In order to complete the program now, students must pass a National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) student certification test for Maintenance and Light Repair and Electrical/ Electronics. Mr. Guthrie said, “Completion of this program will bolster students’ performance abilities and help them to compete in the highly technical job market of the 21st century.” He was also pleased that the new curriculum requires a number of "soft skills" crossing into the areas of math, science, communications, and safety.
