College Board's 2014 Regional Forum

On February 20, 2014, Dr. Baron R. Davis and Mrs. Kloo Hansen had the opportunity to present at the College Board’s 2014 Regional Forum, in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Davis and Mrs. Hansen presented Spring Valley’s model for increasing opportunity to underserved minority populations in participating in Advanced Placement courses. Spring Valley’s model is designed to not only increase participation in AP level course work for minority students, but to increase minority students’ success rates in AP level courses. In this model, the school is working towards more efficient and effective ways to identify, support, and retain those students who show AP level potential in AP level classes. Many of these students have never been afforded the opportunity to succeed at this academic level, even though data shows that the more minority students participate in Advanced Placement, the more likely they are to succeed at the collegiate level. Spring Valley is committed to being a district, state, and national leader in providing more academic opportunities to our underserved populations, and close the educational equity gap.
