Girls Soccer
Tuesday night, the girls soccer team defeated favored Blythewood 2-1 to improve to 6-2, 3-0 in the region (Blythewood dropped to 5-2, 2-1). In a first half where Spring Valley had a favorable wind at their backs, goals were scored by Angela Downs (assisted on a cross by Kat Lenti) and Caroline Herrera (a beautiful free kick from about 20 yards). The second half was played into the wind (which blew harder as the half progressed), resulting in the vast majority of the half being played in the SV end of the field. Inspired second-half defense (back line of Allyson Frame, Cierra Smith, Laurel Sawyer, Caroline Herrera, and later Angie Downs) by the backs and a large number of midfielders, along with several key saves by GK Alex Ramos, resulted in Blythewood being held to one second half goal. The varsity team travels to RNE this Friday, March 28th, for a 5:30pm Region match.
The JV was defeated by Blythewood in last night's opening match.
