Sixty-eight Discovery sophomores and juniors competed in the University of South Carolina Region II Science and Engineering Fair on March 11th, 2016. Each of these students did an outstanding job presenting his/her research to the judges from University of South Carolina, the United States Navy/Marine Corps, Fort Jackson, Congaree National Park, INTEL and many other professional organizations.
Approximately 200 students from area high schools were interviewed by judges to determine the best of the 162 submitted projects. Sarayu Das and Luke Marazzo were chosen as the Grand Female and Male Award Winners, respectively. Ishita Kapoor and Dev Ramesh were awarded the Silver Medal/Second place Grand Awards. Sarayu and Luke will travel to Phoenix, Arizona in May to compete in the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF). Ishita and Dev will attend ISEF as Observers. Evan Johnson was chosen to compete in the International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering, & Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) in Houston, TX, also in May.
