On September 9th, Spring Valley senior Vinita Cheepurupalli will be hosting a fundraising event called Dance for a Smile. Dance For A Smile is a dance program where Indian children are performing classical dance and music in order to raise money for children who need cleft lip surgery in developing countries. The event is on September 9th from 3 PM to 7 PM in the Spring Valley High School Auditorium.
The entrance fee is $10 per person and is free for children under age 10. Dinner will be served after the program. All proceeds go to the nonprofit organization SmileTrain, which does cleft repair surgery in third-world countries.
Smile Train is an international children’s charity which aims to help children with cleft lip. Cleft lip is a genetic disorder that makes a split in the babies' lip or mouth. It can cause infections and make it hard for children to eat, breathe or speak. Smile Train sends trained doctors to do free corrective surgery to fix the cleft lip. It costs $250 per surgery, and with our dance program, we hope to raise enough money for Smile Train to give 5 smiles.
