Flu Season

Flu season is definitely upon us, and we at Spring Valley High School want to do everything possible to keep our school a healthy place to learn! The flu virus is spread when droplets from an infected person’s cough or sneeze come in contact with another person. You may become infected by touching something with flu virus on it and then touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Symptoms of the flu include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, and chills. Some individuals may experience diarrhea and vomiting.

If your child has a fever of 100F with a cough and/or sore throat, please:
❏ Keep your child home from school.
❏ Call your child’s health care provider for medical advice.

Your child may return to school after he/she is fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Motrin.

Prevention:
❏ Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. Wash your hands.
❏ Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
❏ Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Germs spread this way.
❏ Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects that may be contaminated with germs like the flu.
❏ Get a flu shot.
