Girl's Cross Country
8/24
The girls cross country team was in Hendersonville NC this past weekend for the Western North Carolina Cross Country Carnival. Our varsity team started the day off for us on a very wet and muddy course putting up the great start of the season times. Our girls followed their race plans, packed together and finished strong. Senior Alexa Lashley finished with a team-first and 7th overall followed very closely by freshman Brantley Aycock. Brantley ran her fastest ever race with an official time of 22:22 and an 8th place overall finish. Seventh-grader Emily Smoak finished just outside medal contention in 11th place overall in her first XC 5k with a time of 22:34. Also notable in the varsity race were freshman Madison McEachern, seniors Elizabeth Ream and Citlaly Rojo who each were within 30 seconds of their fastest times ever. Rounding out the varsity race Molly Westfall set a new personal record of 24:31 and placed 40th overall.  The team finished 2nd.

Our JV girls stepped up to the line with 3 rookies and again, they fought hard and performed well. Top finisher for SV was Sophomore Angel Huang with a time of 26:05 followed by freshman and newcomer Katheryn (KitKat) Bye posting a 26:15. Maddy Dissinger & Haley Wells weren't far behind with times of 26:23 and 26:47 respectively. Seventh-grader Hannah Cook showed great potential in her first race. Also running for the JV this weekend were Jane McCallum, Lizzie Fields, and Lily Shytle.

The Lady Vikings will be racing this week against region rival Irmo at Clemson Sandhills Extension. The race will begin at 5:30.
