Vamsi Gorrepati is a senior at Spring Valley High School in the Discovery magnet program. He is involved in HOSA, Circle of Friends, Math/Science National Honor Societies, and is the Vice President of Key Club. He has done research on tailoring Metal-Organic Frameworks to increase semiconductors' efficiency. He has also published a research paper and won awards at SCJAS, USC Region II Science and Engineering Fair, and qualified for JSHS Nationals in New Mexico. Outside of school, Vamsi enjoys photography, origami, 3D printing, and has competed in hurdles as part of SV Track and Field. As an Eagle Scout, he has even received the National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year from the Indian Waters Council for building a playground for his temple. Vamsi will be attending Yale University, where he plans to major in Computer Science with a pre-med focus.
One young man and one young woman have been chosen from each State, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and from families of U.S. citizens living abroad. 15 students have been selected at large, 20 students have been chosen for demonstrating exceptional talent in the visual and performing arts, and 20 students have been chosen for demonstrating ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. The Scholars have all demonstrated leadership, scholarship, contribution to school and community, and outstanding accomplishments in the arts, sciences, humanities, and other fields of interest.
