On Saturday, October 26th, thirty-six Discovery and Explorations students traveled to the South Carolina Junior Academy of Science Fall Workshop hosted by the SC Governor's School for Science and Mathematics. Students participated in workshops ranging from robotics to forensic anthropology. Professional development workshops for teachers included forensic botany, working with C. elegans, and making hydrogels. Spring Valley fielded two Challenge Bowl Teams: one in the Expert Division whose team members were Mohammad Arammash, Eddie Tremolada, and Abhiraj "Sunny" Gupta (Top: left to right in picture) and one in the Novice Division whose team members were Luke Marazzo, Rishi Suresh, and Dandavikranth "Vicky" Reddy (Bottom: left to right in picture). Our novice team placed third. After an exciting final match with the Governor's School team requiring multiple tie breaker rounds, our expert team won first place. Even more impressive was the fact that our expert team was composed of one sophomore and two freshmen! Hats off to these students!
