Boys Tennis
The boys tennis team lost a close match to AC Flora 4-3.  The match lasted 4.5 hours and many of the matches went to third set tiebreaks.  Winning for Spring Valley were Blake McGuirt, Vikranth Reddy, and Noah Guyton. The match was decided at number one doubles where Blake McGuirt and Noah Guyton completed in a close match.  The final score of that doubles match was 4-6, 6-7. The boys face Aiken next Monday, March 17th in Aiken.

Varsity Softball
The Lady Vikings softball team lost a hard fought home opener to a tough Hartsville team 12-8.  We had great offensive production throughout our lineup, but weren't able to pull out the victory.  Next game is on Thursday, March 13th at home against West Florence at 6:30. Come out and support your Lady Vikings!

Girls Soccer
This weekend, the girls soccer team hosted the 2014 Taco Bell Viking Cup. The tournament is in its 22nd year, with Taco Bell as the title sponsor during that entire time period.  32 girls' soccer teams were present, including the entire AAAA top-15, eight of the AAA top-10, and the top several teams in the AA, A, and SCISAA classifications.  The competition is tougher than any until the state tournaments wind down to the final week of play.

Spring Valley had a successful tournament, progressing to the Bracket A championship game before falling.  On Thursday, Spring Valley defeated AAA #6 Swansea 2-1 in brutal weather conditions, but all later Thursday and all Friday games ended up being postponed.  On Saturday, Spring Valley defeated AAA #1 and defending state champions Hilton Head 3-2 to advance to the bracket final.  On Sunday, Spring Valley lost to AAAA #3 Lexington 2-0 to finish the tournament with two wins and one loss.  Spring Valley is currently ranked #7 in AAAA.  The regular season opens Tuesday, March 11th with a rematch against Lexington at 7pm (home).  We then host AAAA #12 South Aiken at 7:30pm Thursday, March 13th.
