Girls Soccer
Last night, the girls soccer team (#7 in AAAA) hosted Lexington (#3 in AAAA) in a rematch of Sunday's Taco Bell Viking Cup bracket finals that SV lost 2-0. After falling behind 1-0 during a sluggish first half, Spring Valley came back to equalize in the second half.  After Lexington took a 2-1 lead on one of their few second half chances, Spring Valley again equalized while dominating play throughout the rest of the half, nearly scoring a game winner on several occasions. Spring Valley took the lead in overtime only to see Lexington respond with a goal in the second overtime to send the match to penalty kicks.  Spring Valley prevailed 3-1 in penalty kicks with goalkeeper Bayleigh Ponds saving two Lexington shots.  Angela Downs continues to lead the SV attack, scoring one goal in regulation, one in overtime, and scoring the PK winner.  Cierra Smith added the other Spring Valley goal, and Annie Frame assisted all three SV goals.  Ashley Edmunds and Katherine Lenti had dominating performances in the midfield, especially in the second half.  Spring Valley is now 3-1 and hosts South Aiken on Thursday at 6\7:30, JV and varsity.
