Winter Days is the largest annual school-wide project at Spring Valley High School. The project consists of many charitable drives that benefit a number of local community agencies. Winter Days is completely student directed. Committee chairs survey agency needs, set collection goals, and begins the challenge of coordinating this large effort in the weeks before Thanksgiving. Collection drives take place in late November and early December. The charities we will be donating to this year include Hannah House, Oliver Gospel Misson, Toys for Tots, Richland County First Steps, Harvest Hope Food Bank, Transitions, Palmetto Health Children's Hospital, and Make-A-Wish South Carolina.
This year the student-led committees have set the following goals for Winter Days 2015:
21,000 Cans and non-perishable food items
1,200 New toys
$7,500 for Make-A-Wish South Carolina
100 Foster Children Sponsorships
600 Bags of toiletries items for the Homeless
850 Children's Books
200 Stuffed Stockings
50 Boxes of cleaning supplies (6 items per box)
Our Winter Days chairman this year is Maggie Tolar, alongside Tanvi Mehta (Junior Co-Chair), Max Miller (Sophomore Co-Chair), and Callie Grace McManus (Freshman Co-Chair).
All donations are due by Monday, December 14 and can be delivered to Spring Valley High School, 120 Sparkleberry Lane Columbia, SC 29229.
We will have an assembly on December 18 at 9:00 am to present to our school our final collection numbers and have local charites accept donations and give a brief thank-you speech.
