This scholarship was established in memory of Jaelen Isaiah Josey. Jaelen was a 2015 graduate of the Explorations Magnet program at Spring Valley High School. At the time of his tragic death, Jaelen was a freshman majoring in engineering at the University of South Carolina in Columbia. The family has established this scholarship in his memory in order to assist a freshman student entering college. Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $250 - $1,000. The one-time scholarship awards are intended to aid with expenses incurred when beginning a college career (tuition, books, fees, dorm room supplies, school supplies, etc.). Jaelen’s legacy and love for learning will continue through those who receive the scholarships.
To be considered for the Jaelen Isaiah Josey Memorial Scholarship, students must submit the scholarship application, essay, one sealed letter of recommendation, and an unofficial high school transcript postmarked no later than June 3, 2016. The scholarships will be awarded in August 2016. Applications are available from the Guidance Department.
