For the second year in a row, Sophomore Alyssa Williams has won the Spring Valley Poetry Out Loud Contest!
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with U.S. state arts agencies to support Poetry Out Loud, a contest that encourages the nation's youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. Our state program partners with the SC Arts Commision. This program helps students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, and learn about their literary heritage.
The SVHS Poetry Out Loud Competition was on Thursday, November 28th. This year's contest had six contestants:
Ariel Capers, runner-up
Ridha Fatima
Jasmine Hughley
Sharice Long
Dasia Owens
Alyssa Williams
Alyssa will represent the Vikings in the region contest, which will be January 20th, 2018.
Congratulations to Alyssa and all the contestants!
