Thank you for your patience while our district’s instructional leaders used the guidance from the South Carolina Department of Education to formulate a plan to count e-learning toward the completion of the second semester of the 2019-2020 school year. Please review the following information carefully with your student.
Grades
- Report cards will not be issued for the third-nine weeks. The third-nine week's grade listed in Parent Portal for your child’s classes should now be considered as an interim report on your student’s performance through the midpoint of the second semester. If you need help logging into Parent Portal, please email Mrs. Cynthia Draft at cdraft@richland2.org.
- When final grades are calculated for the second semester there will not be separate grades for the third nine-weeks and fourth nine-weeks.
- For semester-long courses, the final grade will be based on all the work completed in Semester 2 instead of an average of a third nine-weeks grade and a fourth nine-weeks grade.
- For a year-long course, the final grade will be an average of the Semester 2 grade and the Semester 1 grade. The Semester 1 grade will not change and will be based on the average of the first nine-weeks grade and the second nine-weeks grade.
E-learning Assignments for March 19-April 30
- The e-learning assignments that started on March 19 will count toward the completion of your students’ courses for the 2019-2020 school year.
- It is very important that they complete all e-learning assignments.
- Missing e-learning assignments will be denoted in Parent Portal with a temporary grade of 50. If you need help logging into Parent Portal, please email Mrs. Cynthia Draft at cdraft@richland2.org. If these assignments are not submitted by the due dates, the grades will remain a 50.
- E-learning assignments from March 19-April 9 must be submitted no later than Friday, April 24.
- E-learning assignments from April 20-30 must be submitted no later than Friday, May 8.
Seniors
- Regardless of whether or not schools are reopened on May 1, grades for seniors will be finalized by 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 14.
- Content/credit recovery for eligible seniors will take place between May 11-21.
The faculty and staff at Spring Valley recognize the challenges our families are facing during this unprecedented time. If your family’s current circumstances are impacting your student's ability to complete the e-learning assignments, please reach out to one of your student’s teachers or school counselor. We care deeply about our students and their families and are here to support you and your student during this unique time of teaching and learning. We are all in this together. Take care.
Sincerely,
Jeff Temoney
