Both of Spring Valley's VEX robotics teams -- club team Green & Gold Robotics and class team Viking EDD -- competed in the SC VEX State Championship on Saturday March 12 at River Bluff High School. In the above picture club president Josh Roper talks about the team's design process to the judges. The students had a great time despite the way Murphy's Law seemed to carry the day. The students had to work together to overcome one challenge after another. For Viking EDD, Mary Chambers and William Harris competed in the first two matches, Mary Chambers and Spencer Henry competed in the second two matches, and Joseph Duncan and Jordan Thomas competed in the last two matches. For Green & Gold Robotics, our first drive team -- Maggie McKissen, Brennan Ravan, and Paul Dubberly -- and our second drive team -- Emanuel Jung, Murray McDaniel, and Nithin Saravanapandian -- alternated their matches. Alas, at the end of the day, neither the club nor the class team advanced to the quarterfinals. Still, it was a lot of fun and a great experience.
