Viking Sports Wrap

Varsity Football
The Spring Valley Varsity Football team defeated South Aiken 28-16 last Friday night running their record to 5-0 on the season. The Vikings were led on defense by Josh Harlan who had 19 tackles, 1 tackle for loss, 1 fumble recovery and 1 caused fumble. Christian Miller had 9 tackles, 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss and Jordan Williams had 13 tackles and 1 tackle for loss. The Vikings were led on offense by QB Chris Adams who had 11 rushes for 115 yards and 1 TD and was 4-6 passing for 58 yards and 2 TD's. John Miller had 86 yards rushing and 2 TD's and Ryan Lee had 38 yards rushing. Alec Koon rushed for 69 yards. LJ Mealing had a 16 yard TD catch for the Vikings 4th TD. Cooper Gresham had 4 Ext. Pts and 3 Kick offs in the end zone. 

The Vikings travel to undefeated White Knoll Friday night in a battle of the only two undefeated AAAA teams in the midlands. This is a huge game for the Vikings, and White Knoll is expected to have a huge crowd. We need as many fans as possible to support our undefeated Vikings. The Vikings are now ranked 6th in the state in AAAA. 
Swim Teams
The Viking swimmers traveled to Murraywood Swim Club for the Region IV Swim Championships. The Viking Boys retained their Region Championship and the girls battled hard, but finished second.

Individual Double winners were: Tori Agostini (200 and 400 free), Thomas Agostini (200 and 400 free) and Carl Lobitz (50 free and 100 fly).

Single winners included Matthew Greene (200 IM) and Andrew Bennett (100 breast).

Relay winners were the 200 and 400 Free Relays consisting of Isaac Havens, Greene, Agostini and Lobitz.

The State Championships, hosted by Spring Valley HS, are next for the Viking Swimmers on Saturday, October 5 at 4:15 at the Sol Blatt Natatorium on the campus of USC.

Girls Cross Country
Eleven members of the Lady Viking Cross Country team competed at the High Country Cross Country Classic in Boone, NC this past weekend. We came in 2nd of 15 teams coming behind a very competitive Lake Norman.

We had 4 of our varsity members place in the top 20 of 113 total runners. Claudia Cannon placed 2nd overall, Shauntel Smullen 8th, Kailyn Taylor 11th, and Breanna Murrin 18th.

We had 3 of our JV members place in the top 20 of that race. Anjali Gottipaty placed 5th, Inez Nicholson placed 14th, and Torian Ward 19th.

Our young ladies performed very well at this meet and we look forward to competing again this weekend Wendy's Invitational in Charlotte, NC.


Boys Cross Country
Saturday, the Boys Cross Country Team defeated teams from 3 states to win the High Country Classic in Boone. This is our first ever win at this invitational and our first win over host Watauga High. We also beat the #2 ranked team from SC. Jack Timmerman continues to improve placing 2nd overall in the race. Jon Clymer was 7th overall. Finishing out the varsity  were: Kimani Hayes 13th, Ben Garrett 16th, and Mark Doucette 27th.
