Viking Sports Wrap

Girl's Soccer
In a game that featured the 2 best defenses in the Midlands last night, the Varsity girls were able to win in pk's 5-4 after going 90 minutes with neither team scoring. After a sluggish first half, the girls regrouped and were able to apply pressure offensively but were not able to get a ball into the back of the net. After finishing the first round of pk's 4-4, it went into sudden death where Maya Hamzy was able to seal the win. Keeper Lauren Cooney had a big save to preserve the win.

On the season, the girls now have 13 Shutouts in 17 games, giving up as a team .371 goals a game.

Congratulations to the Junior Varsity team on last night's result! I know everyone (including me) would rather have seen a win, but when compared to the last time we played AC Flora (tournament championship game) - what a difference! I was proud to see you come back and prove that you belong on the same field with them. They created some good chances, but we defended them all - and we had our share of good chances as well - just unfortunate a few times

4/25
Last night we honored eleven Seniors during our Sr Night festivities. The opponent for the evening was Hammond which proved to be a great tuneup for the playoffs which start Monday. For only the 2nd time this season, The Vikings not only gave up a first-half goal but also trailed at the half 1-0. As they did Tuesday vs AC Flora, the girls once again came out with a sense of urgency and quickly tied the game up thanks to Sr Karolina De La Paz. The game would end 1-1 and go to pk's The girls were a perfect 4/4 from the spot and Sr Lauren Cooney had 2 big saves to win 4-1 in pk's. For the 2nd time this week, Sr Maya Hamzy came through and scored the winning pk.

The season ends with the girls currently ranked 10 in 5A and 12th in the state.

The Girls Soccer Team will host their first-round game Monday at 7:00 vs a yet to be named opponent. Please come out and support these girls.

Last night in their final game, the Junior Varsity girls soccer team took on the Hammond Sky hawks. Hammond scored quickly in the first half, but the Vikings came back to tie the game in the beginning of the second half. The JV Vikings tried to hold strong but a defensive tackle in the back led to a penalty kick that gave Hammond the win, 2-1. The JV team and coaches want to wish the Varsity team and coaches good luck as they prepare for the first round of the playoffs taking place at 7 pm at home on Monday, April 29th. The stats are below.

Spring Valley 1

SVHS FBLA March of Dimes Fundraiser

Spring Valley Students, Faculty, and Staff. The week of April 22nd - April 26th is March of Dimes week. What is March of Dimes week you might ask? It is a week of fundraising and advocating for health care for mothers and babies. So many expecting mothers and mothers with young children do not have access to proper health care, and may not have enough money for their healthcare bills. Often times these women need support while their baby is in the NICU. FBLA Chapters around the nation have partnered with the March of Dimes Organization to help fundraise and advocate for this great cause. During this week, our FBLA Chapter here at Spring Valley has multiple ways for everyone to get involved. March of Dimes does so much for mothers, babies, and even helps fund research for diseases to find cures. March of Dimes is helping create a better future of us all. So we ask for everyone to help us raise as much money as possible for this great cause. In the following Flyer are all the events and fundraisers for this week. (Written by Kymber Lee)
