Halloween Costume Dress Day Guidelines

Halloween Costume Dress Day Guidelines
Spring Valley High School Students and Teachers:
This year, students and teachers will be allowed to wear Halloween costumes to school on October 31. Some of you may remember this being a yearly tradition some years ago. As always, it is our intention to maintain and uphold our standard of excellence as it relates to positive school spirit, as well as fun-filled experiences for our teachers and students. While students are not required to wear costumes on Halloween, those students who do wish to participate are reminded of the following guidelines:

  1. In light of the recent events nationwide, “Clown” or “Joker” costumes of any kind will not be permitted.
  2. Minimal (nose, eyes, cheek) face paint may be applied on small areas of the face.
  3. Face paint may not be applied to the entire face so that students’ faces are not recognizable.
  4. Costumes may not mock another student, faculty member, race, religious or lifestyle preference.
  5. Costume accessories that are deemed dangerous or similar to weaponry are not permitted.
  6. NO face masks/ hats or any item that will impede your vision or identity may be worn.
  7.  No fake blood or other substances that will spill or cause a mess will be allowed.
  8. Students may not wear anything suggestive or provocative in nature. No underwear as outerwear will be allowed.
  9. Nothing that promotes the use of illegal substances or activities, derogatory or disrespectful or portrays violence.
  10. Finally, all costumes should maintain the integrity of our school dress code.

Please understand that these guidelines are put in place to ensure the safety of all our students. If a student’s costume is found to be inappropriate, she/he will be asked to remove the costume and/or maybe sent home. Wearing a costume is considered a school privilege.

Students are allowed to wear their costumes during the course of the day, but the costume must not interfere with the student’s duties and responsibilities, both in and out of class. We look forward to seeing the creativity of our students when they arrive at school on October 31st. Let’s all make it an enjoyable day!

The Lady Vikings traveled to Newberry Country club to play in the Smith Memorial tournament, also known as the "Pink Out" tournament.  This is an annual event that is hosted by River Bluff's team and coach, Roger Smith, in honor of his parents.  Teams from around the state pencil in this tournament on their calendars because the teams really enjoy getting decked out in their finest and craziest pink attire from head to toe.  And of course, the most important part is that the team entry goes to help fund cancer research.
It was a record-setting temperature day for October and there were lots of cold drinks and cold towels being dispensed.  Unfortunately, the lady Vikings did not have their best that day and finished in 14th place of 17 teams competing.  Low round medalist for Spring Valley was Millie Spivey, who also placed T-44 out of 92+ players in the field. Others contributing to team scores were: Maddie Webster, Mary Freeman, and Millie Sox.

The lady Vikings playing in their last home match of the season taking on the White Knoll Lady Timberwolves.  Honoring our seniors in our "Pink Out-Senior Night" event.  This was a re-scheduled event due to Hurricane Dorian.  But the weather was not an issue on this day, the weather was absolutely perfect for golfing and it seemed to work in the lady Vikings favor, they were able to take down the lady Timberwolves by a team score of 200 over 217.  Low medalist for Spring Valley was Millie Spivey.  Others contributing to the overall team score were seniors Mary Freeman and Millie Sox, along with Sophomore Maddie Webster.  Seniors Mary Freeman and Millie Sox were also honored by their teammates after the match with a pizza party!
Next up for the lady Vikings will be to travel over to Columbia Country Club, Tuesday, October 15th, for the 5A Region 4 qualifying tournament.

He had touchdown throws to Hunter Rogers and Quanta Jackson. The offensive line was led by Nick Solomon, Dallas Carraway and Sean Sullivan who all had good games.
The Defense was led by Trey Peterson who had 11 tackles, 4 sacks and 2 tackles for loss. Coby Cornelius had 10 tackles and 1 TFL and David squires had 11 tackles. John Javis led the Vikings secondary with 6 tackles and 2 interceptions and josh Skelton had an interception.
