Engaging Students by Embracing Technology

Dr. Michael Rodgers' Introduction to Engineering Design classes are doing virtual design projects. The students are working in virtual teams with other students around the country. They are in teams of 3-5 students, working on one of the following design projects, from scratch to working drawings:

Modular Coffee Shop Table
Speaker Support System
Antique Goblet Display/Flight Case
Happy Meal Toy
Wooden Mechanical Toy
Locker Organizer

The students are using Skype to have team and class discussions along with Google Docs and Google Drive to share files and for team organization. First period has teamed up with Jodie Ramirez’s class in Edina, Minnesota. Fifth period and sixth period have teamed up with Karuna Parmar’s classes in Barrington, Illinois. Seventh period has teamed up with Christine Bertsch’s class in Indianola, Iowa.
