Dear Richland Two Families and Employees,
In response to the unprecedented natural disaster affecting Richland County, Richland County School District One and Richland School District Two have decided jointly to close schools for the remainder of this week.
Officials from both districts have spent the last several days monitoring road conditions and following guidance provided by state and local officials. At this time, we have determined it is in the best interest of the safety of our students, parents, employees and community members to cancel school in both districts for Wednesday, Oct. 7Thursday, Oct. 8; and Friday, Oct. 9, 2015. Dangerous travel conditions for our school buses and uncertain water services drive this decision.
More than 50,000 students and 7,900 employees attend school or work in the two districts. Placing that number of individuals on the road during this time of recovery would place an undue burden on the county’s damaged infrastructure.
Officials from the two districts remind individuals they will continue to provide updated information as necessary through their automated calling systems, on their websites and through the local media.
