This is a reminder to complete the 2017-2018 Calendar Survey that was e-mailed to you from Libby Roof on Tuesday. The survey must be completed by 5:00 pm on Friday, October 29th.
Three drafts are marked "REGULAR" and two drafts are marked “WAIVER REQUIRED.” You will vote for one "REGULAR" calendar and one "WAIVER REQUIRED" calendar in the survey.
What does "waiver required" mean?
By law, South Carolina schools cannot start before the third Monday in August. Every year, parents, students and teachers ask how we can develop a calendar that would allow high school students to take first semester exams before Winter Break. A start date earlier than the third Monday in August would allow the district to complete 90 days of school before Winter Break. An early start date, however, requires a waiver from the South Carolina Board of Education.
Based on survey results, the preferred “REGULAR” calendar and the preferred “WAIVER REQUIRED” calendar will be presented to the Richland Two Board of Trustees at their November 15, 2016 meeting.
