Dorn’s
Chief of Voluntary Service, Tammy Finney, welcomed cadet members of the Spring
Valley Drill Team to the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, April
26, as a part of the National Volunteer Week, which incidentally ran April
23-29.
Proving
that one is never too young to volunteer and showcase talents, members of the Air
Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Cadets Spring Valley High School Drill
Team performed some of their award winning precision drills and routines for
the staff and veterans, after which they visited the inpatient wards and the
Community Living Center at Dorn.
Finney
praised the team for their demonstrated proficiency as they stepped in
synchronized cadence, displaying why they were winners of over 52 trophies in
competitions for this school year alone.
Greenville,
S.C. native and the Spring Valley High School JROTC instructor, Maj. (retired)
Gregory Perry, spoke on behalf of the cadets. “The Veterans who are here and
who have served show the epitome of what some of these cadets want to become
and where they want to go,” Perry said. “Our 175 member cadet corps is expected
to produce great leaders in the future, just the same as those who are among
the ones we will visit today.”
As
the cadets visited the wards, they all thanked the Veterans for their service
and presented them with small gifts of appreciation for their service.
Strategic
and Facility Planner for Dorn VA Medical Center, Dr. Synethia Taylor, organizer
for the visit, stated her gratitude for the time and performance of the cadets.
“We are so happy to have them take time out of their schedule to come out and
show their support to the Veterans. Our intent is that this will be a routine
quarterly event whenever school is in session, which will give our staff and
Veterans a treat to look forward to.”
