Students March Their Way Into Championship Show
Two Spring Valley High School students have marched their way onto the biggest stage in college football. Senior trombonists Jonathan Lee and Darren Woodland have earned slots on the All Star Invitational Marching Band and will be performing during the 2013 BCS National Championship game half time show.
The band will be performing with the group, Miami Sound Machine, in front of nearly 80,000 fans. Each year, the All Star Invitational Marching Band brings together the most talented high school marching band performers to work with the some of the biggest names in the marching profession.
Lee and Woodland were identified and selected through an individual audition process. Both students are enrolled in Advanced Placement classes at Spring Valley and plan to continue their education in college next year.
The Orange Bowl, featuring Alabama and Notre Dame, is Monday, Jan. 7, in South Florida. Kickoff is at 8:30 p.m.
