Spring Valley's HOSA took 29 students to the HOSA State Leadership Conference in Charleston on March 12th-14th, 2014. The students had the opportunity to compete in 57 events. HOSA had 10 first place winners, 10 second place winners, and 2 third place winners. Four students won scholarships totaling $2600.00; they were, Akhila Padi, Aakash Shingale, Lydia Kwon, and Karen Lee. Three students were recognized as Bronze medal winners for the Barbara James Service Award; Linda Thomas, Karen Lee and Sara Wallam. Three students were recognized as Silver medal winners for the Barbara James Service Award; Sarah Lee, Crystal Lee, and Leila Yazdi. Two students were in the top 10% for the Health Care Issues Exam; Jane Hyun and Lydia Kwon. Spring Valley HOSA was recognized as an Outstanding HOSA Chapter and for the HOSA Happenings Award. HOSA Advisor's Lorie McDuffie and Mary Morgan accompanied the group to Charleston. Jackie Howard Love attended as a chaperon. The next competition will be in June at the National HOSA Leadership Conference in Orlando, FL.
