Softball
The softball team lost last night to a tough Lugoff Elgin team 6-4. We were down 4-1 in the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs, and were able to get 3 runs across to force extra innings. However, Lugoff was able to score 2 unanswered runs in the top of the 9th. Next game is at home on Friday, March 21st vs. Ridge View. Come out and support your Lady Vikings!
Varsity Boys Lacrosse
On Tuesday, the boys' lacrosse team welcomed RNE for the first game of their 2 game series. The Vikings were victorious, winning 18-5. The offensive explosion was led by Paul Currey, scoring 5 goals and 3 assists. Adding to the totals were: Matthew Hogue with 4 goals, DeShan Wilson (2 goals, 3 assists), Noah Diamond (2 goals, 2 assists), Gerard Smith (2 goals, 1 assist), Clay Armstrong (2 goals), Jay Johnson (1 goal, 1 assist) and Tre Hollis added an assist.
Defensively, the Vikings held the Cavaliers scoreless in man-up situations and turned the ball over a season low 3 times. Teaming up on faceoffs, the Vikings won 21 of 23 attempts, led by Jay Johnson (14 of 16).
Next up is a key region game against Blythewood on Thursday, March 20th at home.
Girls Soccer
Last night, the girls soccer team improved to 4-2 on the season with a 3-0 win at Lugoff-Elgin (region record now stands at 1-0). The team played well, and Angie Downs netted the first goal of the game on a beautiful left-footed shot with a few minutes left to play in the first half. In the second half, Cierra Smith made a 60-yard run from the back to send a cross that Angie headed in for her second goal. Morgan Molosso concluded the scoring on a goal that was also assisted by Angie. Freshman Alex Ramos started and played most of the game in goal after starter Bayleigh Ponds missed the game due to sickness. Alex made one outstanding save in the first half to preserve a 0-0 tie at the time. Kristina Woodford finished the match in goal.
The JV team lost 1-0 to L-E.
On Friday, March 21st both teams travel to Ridge View for another region match up at 5:30 and 7pm.
Boys Golf
The Spring Valley Boys Golf Team came in 6th out of 18 teams yesterday at the Magnolia Invitational hosted by Sumter High at Beech Creek Golf Club. Competing in the event was Hunter Dodgen, Trevor Dunn, Michael Conde, and William Sullivan. Hunter Dodgen got closest to the pin on hole 6 after hitting his tee shot to about 2 feet.
