Spring Valley recently had two students receive Scholastic Art and Writing National Awards for their artwork: Jedidiah Gist and Alexander Kohel. Both won silver awards for their digital art. To give you an idea how big of an accomplishment this is, there were a total of 8 students from all of SC that had their work selected to receive a national award. In addition, a majority of these students attend art magnets schools: the Charleston School of the Arts, the Greenville Fine Arts Center, the Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities, and Richland Northeast ("The Palmetto Center for the Arts"). Dorman and Spring Valley were the only non-magnet schools represented in South Carolina. Also, Spring Valley and the Charleston School of the Arts were the only 2 schools to have 2 national award winners. Way to go Jed and Alex!
