Girls Soccer - Spring Valley 3, White Knoll 1
Goals: SV - Caroline Herrera 2, Kathryn Lenti,
WK - Hannah Johnston
Goalies: SV Meisha Draper. WK - Hannah Blackmon, Brianne Marshall
Last night, the girls soccer team advanced to the Lower State semi-finals with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over White Knoll. The #11 Vikings (15-6) will travel to #4 Dutch Fork (19-2) on Friday for a 7pm game.
Spring Valley took an early lead on a Caroline Herrera goal from 30 yards out after a great attacking run from the back. Caroline scored again later in the half on another long free kick (she has done it four times prior this season) for a 2-0 lead, but White Knoll closed the lead to 2-1 just before the half. The second half was extremely physical, and SV finally got the insurance goal with about 7 minutes left in the game. Angie Downs sent a long cross to Kat Lenti, and Kat was able to control the ball in front of the WK goal and slip it just inside the post for the 3-1 final score.
Meisha Draper played shutout ball in goal (she saved the WK goal before an unmarked runner followed up and scored unopposed), and Carolina Herrera and Cierra Smith had outstanding games attacking from the back and defending as well. Allyson Frame and Hannah Gorman also had very solid games on defense.
An outstanding effort from all players will be required to get by Dutch Fork, so come out and support the Vikings Friday at Dutch Fork.
