In July, several SVHS faculty members took the professional development challenge for AVID-Advancement Via Individual Determination Training in Philadelphia, PA. Stacey Baker is our local AVID Administrator and Mary Paige Boyce is our district AVID Coordinator. Alsena Edwards is our AVID elective teacher, Michelle Maxberry and Kim English are AVID English and Math teachers, and Eric Hawkins is an AVID School Counselor. Several other faculty members were trained in AVID fundamentals in previous years. AVID is an international program that focuses on helping each student achieve success with an emphasis on first generation college candidates.
