Girl Powered Robotics Event Held at Spring Valley

Middle and high school girls from around the district participated in an evening of hands-on robotics engineering activities from 4:30-7pm on Monday, October 24th. The event featured an array of engaging activities, speakers, giveaways and more to excite and further interest girls in STEM education and competitive robotics.

Tammy Vaught, mentor for Spring Valley's VEX Robotics Teams, organized and ran the Girl Powered event based on material provided for it by the Robotics Education & Competition Foundation in partnership with VEX Robotics.  Students from the Robotics Teams and the Technology Student Association helped by preparing the materials and working with the girls during the event.

At the event, the girls heard from speakers Patty Langland from SCDOT and Abby Vaught from A3 Communications, participated in a leadership activity, and engaged in a robotics speed build activity. They had a great time and learned a lot about leadership, STEM, and robotics.
