JV
The Spring Valley JV football team cruised to a 36-6 win over River Bluff Thursday night to complete another sweep by both the B-team and JV. The young Vikings got it started in the 1st quarter by producing 9 points from the special teams. Johnathon Hefner had the hustle play of the night by tracking down a "rugby" style punt from the backside and blocking it, with Danny Evans scooping it up and racing 42 yards for a TD. On the next possession, the same punt block unit forced a high snap by the kicking team to produce a safety and spotting us a 9-0 lead in the 1st quarter. Then the offense took over with Maddux Harrell rushing for a game-high of 10 carries for 83 yards and scoring runs of 6 and 14 yards. With 52 seconds left in the half from our 32 yard line the offense went on a 2 play drive with Harrell connecting on a long pass up the middle to Will Singleton for 51 yards to set up a spectacular catch by Singleton on the next play for a TD that Harrell lofted over the defensive back in the back of the end zone. Also in the first half, Caleb Roberts made a diving 16-yard catch to keep a scoring drive alive. Defensively the team was lead again by the secondary of Harrison Gowland, with multiple open field tackles, Isiah Miller, Calvin Johnson, Rodney Young and Hunter Rodgers with 2 awesome pass breakups. Jonathon Hefner help end a River Bluff scoring attempt in the first half with a pass deflection that DL Eric Vanlue was able to intercept. To finish up the scoring Rodgers scampered 33yds to set up a 19 yard TD run by Miller. The JV improved to 5-1 overall and 3-1 in the region.
