Junior Science & Humanities Symposium

Ten Spring Valley Discovery students submitted research papers to the 2018 Department of Defense-sponsored Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS), which took place on January 26, 2018, at the University of South Carolina. Based on their written research papers, the following students were chosen as Semifinalists.  Semifinalists were competing for the opportunity to attend and compete for scholarships at National JSHS in Hunt Valley, Maryland (all expenses paid).

In the finalist round Lily Shytle earned first place ($2,000 scholarship), and Gillian Patton earned second place ($1,500 scholarship). Both will compete in oral presentation sessions at the National JSHS conference. Kristina Trifonova won fifth place overall and will compete in the National JSHS poster session. Finally, Jasmine Hughley (10) also earned first place in her session. Congratulations to these students and their research teachers--Dr. Joanne Bedlek-Anslow, Mr. Dale Soblo, and Mrs. Michelle Spigner.
