Girls Golf
The Spring Valley girls played in the Smith Memorial HS tournament Thursday at Country Club of Newberry.  It was an 18 hole event with 16 high school teams in attendance and 10 individual players.  Spring Valley tied for 5th place with Byrnes with a team score of  362.  South Point took 1st place at 319 and Boiling Springs 2nd at 345.  Low medalist for Spring Valley was Juliana Sebastian with a 75.  Other players contributing to team score were Mary Colvin Temple, Ebony Bennett and Bonnie Ayres.  Spring Valley girls will play Heathwood Hall/Ridge View on Monday Oct 7th at Indian River.   


JV Football
Thursday night the J.V. football team defeated White Knoll, 41-14. The offensive captain was Cameron Cain and the defensive captain was Peyton Pendarvis. The J.V. team remains undefeated this season with the win.
On offense, TyJuan Fulton scored three touchdowns on a 73 yard run, on a 15 yard touchdown run, and a 48 yard touchdown reception from Kevin Owens. There were great runs by Kevin Owens and Rashaad Washington throughout the night as well. There was great line play from McQuilla, Wilson, Hare, Melton and Hills. Noah Davis also had a great night at fullback, scoring from 6 yards out and 40 yards out. Bunch then scored from 47 yards out to close out the Viking offensive production for the night.
Defensively, the Vikings had a great game shutting down the Timberwolves for most of the night. Prince Howard had a great sack on a pivotal 3rd and long for the Vikings. Alston Adams had an interception early on in the game, which lead to a Viking touchdown, and Collin Depositer had several tough open field tackles from his position in the secondary. Collin also had a fumble recovery in the second half after being out for two weeks due to injury. Antwan Guyton had a great night on special teams and made some critical tackles on kick off for the Vikings. R.J. Bacon was 5/6 on PAT's.

Girls Tennis
The Spring Valley Girls Tennis Team had a busy and productive week defeating 3 of their 4 opponents in a dominating fashion.  Monday the Lady Viking lost a close match to Hammond, with Julia Learmonth and Tanvi Mehta winning big for the Vikings.  Tuesday the girls demolished Lugoff not dropping a single game to the Lady Demons.  Wednesday the Lady Vikings beat Manning 6-0 and Thursday defeated Richland Northeast 6-0 as well. Next week the Lady Vikings will have two very crucial matches and will play one of these at home on Thursday against Irmo. These two matches will determine where the girls will start their state tournament campaign.


Football
The Spring Valley Varsity Football team defeated undefeated White Knoll 41-21 last Friday night to run their record to 6-0 and a #6 ranking in the state. The Vikings were led on offense by RB John Miller who rushed 15 times for 217 yards and 4 TDs. He also had 2 receptions for 30 Yards. QB Chris Adams rushes 15 times for 101 yards and was 6-8 passing for 107 yards. Alex Koon had 7 rushes for 53 yards and 1 TD. Ryan Lee had 7 rushes for 38 yards. LJ Mealing had 2 receptions for 33 yards and Jordan Foster had 3 receptions for 48 yards and a TD.  On defense the Vikings were led by Christian Miller who had 13 tackles, 3 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. Josh Harlan had 15 tackles, 2 tackles for loss and a sack. The Vikings  defense limited 5-0 White Knoll to 152 total yards of total offense and 2 TDs. The Vikings will play at home against rival Blythewood HS in the first region game this Friday night at Harry Parone Stadium. We need a huge crowd for this very important game.

Cheer
On Saturday, October 5, 2013, the Spring Valley Varsity Cheerleaders participated in the SC Cheer Viking Challenge.   The team earned a 1st place win beating White Knoll, Ft. Dorchester and Blythewood.   In addition they came home with Best Choreography and Grand Championship honors.  Their next Competition is Tuesday, October 8 at AC Flora High School. 





Boys Cross Country

Saturday, October 5th, the Boys Cross Country Team competed in the prestigious Wendy's Invitational in Charlotte. Our boys finished 8th out of 35 teams in the top division. We were the top 4A team from SC in the meet. We beat the teams that were ranked 8th, 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd and 1st in SC. ( #2 was not there and we WERE 7th). 

Jack Timmerman again led the team placing 8th overall while running 15:50 for 5k. Jon Clymer ran 16:40 and Ben Garrett ran 16:49 to lead the Vikings. (Jack's 15:50 is the fastest time on this course since Brian Raymond's 15:43 in 2003 - that's the year Brian won the Individual State Championship and we won the Team Championship.)

Girls Cross Country
The Girls Cross Country team competed in the Wendy's Invitational this past Saturday in Charlotte, NC. We came in 19th of 32 varsity teams. This was a very competitive race but freshman Claudia Cannon came in 9th of 224 total runners.

We look forward to competing this Wednesday against RNE. 

Swim
On Saturday, October 5, the Viking swimmers sent a small group of swimmers to the Sol Blatt Natatorium for the 4A State Swim Championships.  The boy's came away with a 9th place finish, but that finish doesn't tell the true story, however.   All the Viking swimmers swam very well and earned personal best swims at the meet.

Scoring points for the Vikings were: 
Thomas Agostini (Jr) finished 5th in both the 200 and 500 freestyle.
Carl Lobitz (So) finished 10th in the 50 freestyle and 7th in the 100 butterfly.
Isaac Havens (Sr) finished 11th in the 100 freestyle
Matthew Greene (So) finished 20th in the 100 freestyle
These four teamed up to capture two 4th place finishes in the 200 free relay and the 400 free relay.

Other finishers include:
Tori Agostini (So) finished 26th in the 200 freestyle and 27th in the 500 freestyle
Abby Harrison (Fr) finished 27th in the 100 backstroke
Matthew Greene, 23rd in the 200 IM
Isaac Havens, 22nd in 50 freestyle
Noah Fecther, Andrew Bennett, Alex Gregg and Jason Erno also competed in the 200 Medley Relay.

Other members of the State Team include Jed Gist, Garrett Hutter and Ryan Staudt.
