Spring Valley’s FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) united with Richland Northeast, Blythewood, Ridge View, and Westwood High Schools for their 2014-2015 Induction Ceremony.  

The induction ceremony was held at The Richland County Recreation Commission Adult Activity Center on Wednesday, October 29th.  

Spring Valley proudly inducted thirty-six members and formally pinned seven officers.  Spring Valley’s officers include: Stephen Johnson (President), Whitney Jenkins (Vice-President), Tiffani-Shae Starks (Secretary), Aiditi Taylor (Treasurer), Melanie McRae (Reporter), DeAnonte’ McMillian (Historian), and Janae Bacote (Parliamentarian).

SV Baseball Team Take Halloween to the Diamond

The Spring Valley baseball team dressed in costume for a scrimmage game this week as they wrapped up their pre-season practice with their own version of a Halloween celebration.  Players came dressed to impress; even Head Coach Collin Liggett joined in on the fun.  Players and spectators had a great time at the event.

USC Admissions Representatives on Campus Oct 30th

Representatives from the University of South Carolina will be on campus on  October 30th at 9:30 AM. Juniors and Seniors interested in USC are encouraged to attend. Members of MAN UP Fellowship After School

The focus of the meeting and theme for October is Professionalism. Students learned multiple ways to tie the knot of a necktie along with proper handshake etiquette. In addition, students developed a better understanding of the importance of first impressions, appearance, and presentation.

Girls Golf
Spring Valley Lady Vikings golf team traveled to Summerville to play in the 4A State Championship that was held at Wescott Plantation.  The top 8 lower state qualifiers and top 8 upper state qualifiers played 36 holes over two days. The Lady Vikings 2014 season came to an end with a 15th place finish in the state.  

Two day low medalist for Spring Valley was senior, Bonnie Ayres.  Other contributors and players for Spring Valley were Kamryn Beaman, Payton Starmack, Mary Colvin Temple and Jessica Kibler.

FBLA Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive


Please help FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) by donating non-perishable food items for our Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive.  They are adopting six families this Thanksgiving by providing them with baskets containing food items for a Thanksgiving breakfast and/or dinner.  Donations can be dropped off in the Atrium area at the front desk or in Mrs. Sumter's classroom.   Donations began on Monday, October 13th and will end on Friday, November 14th. Thank you for your help and support.

Job Opportunities for Students at District Office

RSD2 has 2 job positions available for students at the District Office.  The positions are junior receptionist, you would be responsible for greeting customers and answering phones.  They are looking for an articulate personable student with good interpersonal skills.  This is a paid internship and the students can earn Work Based Learning credit.  The job is for Monday to Friday from either 8:00 am to noon or 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.  See Mrs. Morgan in E330 for an application.  The deadline to apply is November 7th.

Spring Valley Football Players Selected to Play in 2014 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl

Spring Valley seniors Ja'Lon Williams and Tyler Frazier were selected to play in the 2014 Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Bowl. The all-star game, formerly known as the North-South All-Star Football Game will take place at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach on Saturday, December 13th at noon. Congratulations to Ja'Lon and Tyler!

Pictures Needed for Veterans Assembly

On November 10th, Spring Valley High School will honor the service of our veterans with a breakfast in the Media Center from 8:00 until 8:50, followed by a school-wide Veterans Appreciation Assembly at 9:00 AM in the Gym. The Spring Valley Symphonic Band will be performing patriotic songs alongside the 282nd Army Band from Fort Jackson, and a guest speaker will address the student body.

For the assembly, we would like to include a slideshow of images of veterans related to our students – mother, father, aunt, uncle, grandparent, etc. Please send us your pictures, in uniform, with the following information: name, rank, branch of service, wars or conflicts served in (optional), retired or active, and the name of the student or staff member related to the veteran. Please email the photo as an attachment to Jim Childers, Assistant Principal, at jchilder@richland2.org. The deadline for submitting a picture is November 5th.

We hope to see all of our veterans on November 10th so that we may express our gratitude for all that you have done, and all that you do.

Spring Valley Students Tour College Campuses

Before choosing the best college to attend, it is important for students to test the waters.  Making a college visit and touring the campus can be pivotal in a students decision to apply to a school. Rather than just reading about schools online, students get an unmatched opportunity to decide if they can envision themselves on that campus being part of that environment. During the Fall, Spring Valley's Career Information Center organizes college tours for juniors and seniors. Varsity Football
The SV varsity football team lost a close game top Dutch Fork HS 25-12 this past Friday night. The Vikings led 12-10 with less than 7 minutes left in the game before losing a hard fought game. The Vikings were led on offense by Ryan Lee who had 11 rushes for 61 yards and was 4-7 passing for 69 yards. Alec Koon had 11 rushes for 58 yards and 1 TD. RJ Bacon had 2 catches for 42 yards and 1 TD. Cooper Gresham had 4 punts for 1 41.5 average. 
On defense the Vikings were led by Sr. Ja'Lon Williams who had 7 tackles, 1 sack and 1 tackle for loss. Tyler Frazier had had 15 tackles and 1 tackle for loss and De'Marcus Muscove had 13 tackles. Keenan Reid and JC Pope each had 10 tackles. 
The Vikings have a huge region game this Friday versus Ridge View at Blythewood stadium. The Vikings are now 5-4 on the season.

Girls Tennis loses to Greenville High School

Girls Cross Country
The girls cross country team placed 2nd in the region behind Dutch Fork last night. The Lady Vikings had a great race with two All Region runners, Claudia Cannon & Breanna Murrin. They compete again on November 1st at the Mid-State Qualifier.

B-Team Football
The B-Team defeated DF 14-13 Thursday with a dramatic 100+ yard run by Austin Eichleberger and after a penalty, DJ Skeleton hit the winning 35 yd extra point, to claim the victory. This was a great team effort victory for the SV B-Team. It was a very exciting win for the team and everyone watching.

Girls Tennis
The girls tennis team finished their season last night with a loss to a very tough Greenville High School squad.  The team record this season is 10 & 7.  I am very proud of the girls and especially of their poise and demeanor when faced with adversity.  You should be very proud of how they handled themselves when dealing with some very rude parents and players from the opposing team.  Way to go Lady Vikings!

Varsity Football
The SV varsity football team defeated Lugoff-Elgin 40-14 Friday night to run its record to 5-3 on the season. The Vikings were led on offense by the rushing of Kevin Owens who had 120 yards and 2 TD's, Kadarius Bunch who had 1 TD. Also scoring for the Vikings were WR Kavon Breeland and RB Bryson Jones on TD passes. Vincent Wilson had a great game on the offensive line.

The defense was led by a fumble recovery for a TD from senior Austin Adams. Also having good games were JC Pope 10 tackles, Ty Tallant 8 tackles 1 tackle for loss, Tyler Frazier, De'Marcus Muscove, Jordan Willaims Michael Asbury and Ja'Lon Williams. The Vikings region record is now 1-1. The Vikings have a big showdown with Dutch Fork HS this Friday at home and need a huge crowd to help knock off DF 6-2 2-0 in the region.

Boys Cross Country
Last Wednesday the Boys Cross Country Team finished the regular season by defeating Ridgeview. The Boys finished the season at 12-3. Saturday we ran in the Sandhills Invitational and finished 5th out of 35 schools. This is a young team who is continuing to improve and trying to qualify for the State Championships. At this time our varsity is: Ben Garrett, Jacob Maldonado, Cam Brandenburg, Matt Frierson, Shash Ravi, Steven Andreen, and Jon Kaus. 

We compete in the Region Championship this Thursday at Sandhills.

The U.S. Fleet Forces Band Performs for Students @ SV


The Spring Valley Symphonic Band students had the opportunity to participate in an instructional clinic with the U.S. Fleet Forces Band on October 14th, followed by a performance in the Spring Valley Auditorium.

Under the direction of Lieutenant Commander Mark Corbliss, the band is fortunate to be staffed by some of the U.S. Navy's finest and most talented musicians. The U.S. Fleet Forces Band, stationed in Norfolk, VA, performs over 600 engagements annually.  Its mission is to provide musical support for ships, shore activities, Navy Recruiting, foreign dignitaries, and community relations events.  The “Finest in the Fleet” entertains audiences totaling in the millions every year.

Bridging the Gap Between Engineering and Business to Create an Entrepreneurial Culture


Mrs. Crisie Smith was the guest speaker in Mrs. Wells’ Entrepreneurship class.  The name of Mrs. Smith's company is “Development Innovations” and they created an app called “Takeoff Running”. The app can be downloaded from Amazon App Store, Google Play and the App Store.  The students were very engaged during her presentation, because they were able to download the app and played around with it.  She also talked to the class about how companies make money from apps and things they need to know when creating an app.  Mrs. Smith shared with the students some creative ideas that they can apply to their business plans. 

Spring Valley's MAN UP Program


MAN UP (Maximizing and Navigating Unlimited Potential) is a program which aims to develop young men through mentoring and training. Students met their mentors for the first time as Spring Valley's MAN UP mentoring program kicked off the 2014-15 year with it's annual "Meet and Greet".  The program continues to grow in its second year of existence.

Wear pink on Wednesday to help raise awareness of breast cancer.
