Teacher Cadets at Spring Valley

Exactly what is Teacher Cadets?
Teacher Cadet is a class for juniors & seniors who are interested in exploring the various careers in education.or in any profession that works with kids. You will learn valuable information and gain the skills to work with children and youth. More detailed information can be found at this link: https://www.teachercadets.com/teacher-cadets-overview.html

What kind of credit do students earn?
The class is a dual enrollment class, so students are receiving college credit (EDU101) while at the same time receiving an elective high school credit. Because of its dual enrollment status, S.C. awards Advanced Placement weighting to this course.

Who can sign up for the class?
Students must have a cumulative 3.0 GPA and an excellent disciplinary record. You MUST complete an application to be admitted into the class.

What about the college credit?
The credit will transfer to any college or university in the United States. The receiving college will determine how the credit will be applied to the student’s course of study dependent on their major , but no college has refused to accept it.

Can juniors take the class?
YES!

What if I am not sure I want to be a teacher?
This class will still be of great benefit to you! See Mrs. Dilley in 329D for more information. Applications are available from Mrs. Dilley, outside of 329D in the folder, and online.

Flu Season Reminder

Flu season is here and Spring Valley wants to keep our students and the adults who care for them healthy. Richland County is experiencing a rise in seasonal influenza (flu) cases. Flu is different from the common cold. Please do not send your child to school if they have a fever. Early symptoms of the flu include a cough or sore throat with a fever greater than 100 degrees F. Students need to remain at home until they have been fever-free for 24 hours without the benefit of fever-reducing medications such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Other ways to prevent spreading the flu:
  • Wash hands often for at least 20 seconds with soap and water and dry hands with a paper towel.
  • Place paper towels for use next to all sinks instead of cloth hand towels.
  • Keep your children home from school if they have a cough or sore throat and a temperature greater than 100 degrees F.
  • Cough or sneeze into a tissue, or into your upper sleeve or elbow, rather than your hands
  • Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

If you develop symptoms of the flu, seek medical care.
